At the end of the Consent period, Personal Data have to be cleansed or cleaned or deleted or given back.
Cleansing means all Personal Data are changed in such a way that the link to the Data Subject is broken. Personal Data become just data.
Cleaning up means all Personal Data which are not needed anymore are removed. This can be done even before the end of consent.
Deleting means removal of Personal Data from the systems.
Sometimes Data Subjects/clients want the Personal Data used given back, be it digital and /or on paper. Most times these data concerns paper dossiers use and/or obligatory for the process. Keep in mind that Data Subject/clients have to sign off for receiving the data.
